Jeanette Marie (Cardinal) Bergin's Obituary
Jeanette Marie (Cardinal) Bergin, 88, of Clay, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019. Born in Utica, NY, she lived her early childhood between her parents’ hometown of Fitchburg, MA and the Utica area. While a nursing student at St. Mary’s Maternity Hospital in Syracuse, she met her future husband on a blind double date. They were married in the Grotto of Assumption Church in 1950. True to her French ancestry, she was gracious, stylish, artistic, and intelligent. As a wife and mother, she was talented in the kitchen, at her sewing machine, with interior design, and exterior landscaping. She studied the Catholic faith and Church History; was devout, faithful and pro-life. She volunteered for Birthright and was a professed Secular Franciscan in the St. Marianne Cope Fraternity.
She is predeceased by her husband, Martin J. Bergin; their daughter, Claudette Marie; their grandson, William “Buddy” Chase Watkins; her parents, Wilfred and Helen (Rouleau) Cardinal; her brother, Gerald Cardinal and sister, Marylouise Cardinal. She is survived by her children: Kathleen Heidemann, Marlene (William) Watkins, Martin (Vera) Bergin, Michael (Stacey) Bergin and Linda (William) Goforth; 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
The Right of Christian Burial Mass will be prayed at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero, with burial immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt, NY. Arrangements entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME.
