Jennie "Jane" E. Lostumbo's Obituary
Jennie "Jane" E. (Pasquale) Lostumbo, 100, of Syracuse, passed away Monday at the Francis House surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Alexander and Giovannina (Volpe) Pasquale. At the young age of 13; Jane worked at Jacob Shapiro Pants Factory and then at age 16 worked at Remington Rand Typewriter Company and for Bristol Meyers. Jane and her husband successfully owned and operated Lostumbo Oil Company for over 25 years. She dedicated countless hours to community volunteerism; she served as President of St. Peter's Altar Society for 50 years; raised funds for St. Joseph's Hospital and was also Treasurer of the Young at Hearty Senior Group. Devoted to her Italian heritage, Jane along with her supportive husband and family was instrumental in creating the First Columbus Day Parade in Syracuse. She also volunteered her time at the Festa Italiana for 15 years. Described by her family as a loving, caring and hardworking person who has made a difference in countless lives.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Lostumbo in 1970; her daughter, Jean Lostumbo Radley in 2000; five sisters, Lucy Notar, Mary Goldthwaite, Angie DeBartelo, Margaret Corsello and Rosemary Coleman; four brothers, Samuel, Joseph, Alex and Michael Pasquale.
Jane is survived by her son, Francis (Elizabeth) Lostumbo of Potomac, MD and her daughter, Virginia "Ginnie" Lostumbo of Syracuse; four grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Lostumbo of Kensington, MD, Julie Lostumbo of Washington DC, John (Lisa) Lostumbo of Amherst, NY and Christine (Steven) Lakin of North Syracuse; six great-grandchildren, Lucia, Eva, Joseph, Luke and Sara Jane Lostumbo and Sean Lakin along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and Noon in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Jane's family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the nurses and staff at the Francis House and Iroquois Nursing Home for their dedicated and wonderful care. Also special thanks to Dr. Sharon Springer, Dr. Patrick Riccardi, Dr. Santo DiFino and Dr. Gregory Kenien.
