Jerry Burns' Obituary
Jerry Burns, 86, of Cato, NY, entered eternal rest on May 9, 2024, at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Watertown, NY, son of the late Daniel Griffin and Leona Elizabeth (Green) Burns. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1954-1962. He studied Latin in High School. Jerry was a Patrol Leader for the Boy Scouts and lived by the Boy Scouts Oath and Law. He was an advanced stock car racer, builder, and mechanic, especially being a handyman to all family, friends, and neighbors. Jerry worked as an Elevator Mechanic for Westinghouse Elevator and was a Field Superintendent for Schindler Elevator, retiring in 1998, and was President of IUEC Local 62, Syracuse. He was very proud to serve as an election inspector for many years for both Onondaga and Cayuga counties as well as serving on the Democratic Committee in the town of Lysander.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved dogs, Tuffy and Jigs.
Jerry is survived by his children: Daniel R. Warwick, David R. Warwick, Dennis R. (Terry) Warwick, Colleen M. (Greg) Dunbar, Theresa, Michael (Virginia), and John Burns; grandchildren: Joseph, Deena, Danielle, Kayla, Andy, Kelly, Renee, Jonah, Jacob, Rose, Scott, Tara, and Andrew; several great and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Leo D. Burns and Stephen P. Burns; his special niece, Kathy (Monte) Jones, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins; his former wife, Dolores G. Burns, who cared for him in her home; special neighbors, Julia "Cookie Lady" Bresee and Matt Longyear, and his beloved dog, Ranger his “Little Buddy.”
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. He will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
