Joan I. (Brusso) Schmeling's Obituary
Joan Irene Schmeling went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 10, 2025. She was born in Standish, NY, daughter of the late Rubin Louis Brusso and Leda Irene LaDuke, and graduated from Minoa High School in 1958. Joan was secretary and treasurer for the CNY Conservative Party. She also belonged to many organizations in which she volunteered her time.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kurt R. Schmeling and her daughter, Debra Joan Schmeling, whom she’s now reunited with.
Joan is survived by her children, Kurt D. (Kathy) Schmeling, Derek R. (Melinda) Schmeling, Sunday Darling, Bobbi (Mark) Merwin, and Chad A. (Brooke) Schmeling; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 9 – 10:30 am, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Joan’s life at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
