Joan C. (Baranello) Rey's Obituary
Joan (Baranello) Rey, life resident of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Friday unexpectedly. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Carmine and Lena (Marco) Baranello. Joan graduated from North High School and worked for many years as a bus driver for the Westhill CSD, and was a medical secretary, working at many local area doctor’s offices. Upon retiring, she enjoyed traveling to Florida to take care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting and gifting baby blankets, cooking, and following everyone on Facebook.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Rey in 2016, and her son Anthony.
She is survived by her three children, John (Kristen) Rey of Westvale, Frank C. Rey (Kim Cannistra, children, Todd and Samantha Cannistra) of Syracuse, and Christina (James) Thomas of Baldwinsville; six grandchildren, Kyle and Olivia Rey, Nico and Isabella Rey (mother, Tina), and Giuliana and Jimmy Thomas. Her sister, Maryann (Frank) DeMichele; two nieces, Mary Frances (Robert) Piraino and Luanne (Charles) Giannino; and many cousins.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Joan’s life at 10 a.m. in St. Charles – St. Ann’s Church, 417 S. Orchard Rd. Syracuse, NY. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse, NY.
