Joan M. Logan's Obituary
Joan (Joni) M. Logan, of Fayetteville, NY.
The page was turned, and the name JOAN MARIE LOGAN was read from the Lamb’s Book of Life. In that moment, Joan was a new creation, embraced by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God. Reunited with family and friends missed for many years and creating worshipful music with an incredible organ and piano. Endlessly playing - with no constraints by time or worldly responsibilities.
Joni was born in Syracuse, NY on May 8, 1940 to Carmen P. Logan Sr. and Victoria Margaret Maloof Logan, joining her brother, Carmen P. Logan Jr., on W. Belden Ave with a spectacular rose garden in the backyard. Next door lived her paternal grandparents from Spadafora, Italy. Home life included a hard-working father, mother of Syrian heritage, music, good food, extended family and friends. The tree in front of their home was marked by those in need, to indicate, “Stop here. They’ll give you food.” These traditions were continued throughout Joni’s own life bringing her enormous joy.
Joni walked to Porter School and her experiences provided many comical stories. Joni was a great storyteller. She loved making people laugh and was able to form instant connections that lasted a lifetime. As a teen, many friends were made through The Pompeian Players. Upon graduation from Central Tech High School, Joni followed her brother’s footsteps into the world of making people beautiful and confident. She attended Syracuse Beauty School and joined Carmen at Car-Lo’s Coiffures for most of her life. Joni was a talented beautician and enjoyed learning new techniques.
Joni was fiercely dedicated to her family. She worked part-time to be home
with her children.
At 43 years old, Joni’s life necessitated enormous, painful change but we know God works all things for His purpose. Joni worked tirelessly to succeed at a new career and retired in 2006 from the 5th Judicial Courts as a Sr. Court Office Assistant. After retirement, Joni continued styling hair but now had MORE time to enjoy the things she loved. Her grandchildren - attending their musical, theatrical and sporting events. Staying at her camp that faced the water of Lake Ontario and hosting get togethers. Playing her organ and piano, polenta dinners, Red Hats, cards, antiquing, Piano and Organ Club weekends in Alex Bay, Rummicube and competitive games of Bocci with her son-in-law. Joni was instrumental in forming the first Women’s Bocci League in Syracuse and ensured the trophies were taller than the men’s!
Joan left us on February 22, 2021. Since November 2020, Joan resided at the home of her daughter, Joni Dominy. Son in law, Allan, and grandchildren Lexi and Greg were excellent caregivers. Joan passed surrounded by family, friends, music, laughter and lots of love. Exactly the way she lived. Thank you, Hospice of CNY, for your support.
In addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her granddaughter, Victoria Rose Dominy.
Joan is survived by her children, Joan M. Dominy (Allan), Deanna L. Granato, and John A. Granato II (Renee); five grandchildren, Alexandra, and Greg Dominy; Logan, Lucas and Christian Granato; her brother, Carmen P. Logan, Jr.; her High School Prom date and loving companion, David Artini; four nieces, Elizabeth, Maria, Elena, and Lauren, along with many cherished cousins, especially Dominick Logan, she considered a brother and her sister-in-law, Mary (Mae) Constantin.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 1 – 3 pm, immediately followed by a Celebration Service of Joan’s life at 3 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. To attend her service remotely, please visit Joan’s tribute page at 3pm Saturday at tjpfuneralhome.com. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Spring. In honor of Joni, please consider wearing gold hoop earrings, bright lipstick and a shade of purple.
