Joan B. (Santuci) DeYulio's Obituary
Joan B. (Santuci) DeYulio, 86, of Syracuse, NY joined Frank, her husband of 64 years, in Heaven on June 23, 2019.
Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY where she attended St. Angela Hall. She sang solos in the choir and played the violin in the orchestra. She also earned a master’s degree in worrying and put it to use every day of her life. Joan met her husband on a blind date in Coney Island and then moved to Syracuse to be married and start a family. She retired from Syracuse China where she handled the company payroll.
Joan enjoyed singing in church. She loved to tend to the flowers in her yard, especially the ones that migrated through the fence from her longtime friends, Barb and Del’s yard. She once planted delicate african violets outside and coaxed them through a cold winter. From the time she was little she loved cowboy movies. She often told stories about the times her and her brother Ralphie “rode” the matinee seats like horses watching cowboy movies at the theater.
Joan’s biggest joy was seeing her family and laughing with them. She was a proud doting grandma to granddaughter Abby, following her sporting events and dance recitals – even graciously tap dancing a few times with tap shoes Abby insisted she needed.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Frank A. DeYulio; parents, Carmine and Dorothy Santuci, sisters-in-law, Linda Santuci, Mary Caruso and Lucy DelVecchio; brother-in-law, Michael DelVecchio, Sr.; long time friend, Linda and Sister Lina from the Franciscan Order.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Joanie (John) Rogers, Fran (Otto) Alvarez, and Frankie (Betty) DeYulio; favorite grandchild, Abby Rogers; step-grandson, Steven Alvarez; brother, Ralph Santuci; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Beverly DeYulio; sister-in-law, Jenny Gillette; brother-in- law, Peter Caruso; many nieces and nephews.
Special friends who will miss her with all their hearts: Barb, Dell, Jackie, Amy, Suzette, Shaniqua, Jessica, Chevon, Tina and Eulalia.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Joan’s life at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
