Joanne (Hill) Merritt's Obituary
Joanne (Hill) Merritt, 94, longtime resident of North Syracuse, passed away on January 15, 2021 at Bethany Gardens, Rome NY. Born and raised in Brockton, MA and her beloved Cape Cod, Joanne was a 1948 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Syracuse University. She wed Ralph Merritt of Beaumont, TX in the same year. Their family grew to include 3 children and they resided in the Syracuse area until his untimely death in 1953. Joanne remained in North Syracuse where she raised their children and worked for many years at General Electric, Bond, Schoeneck and King, and Dey Brothers in various administrative positions. A great lover of travel, Joanne always said the Cape was her favorite place on earth.
Joanne is survived by two sons, David (Corrine) Merritt, Glenwood Springs, CO; Douglas (Karen) Merritt, N. Syracuse, and daughter, Valerie (Greg) Gagen, Cleveland, NY. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank Natalie and the staff at Bethany Gardens for their care during her final journey.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. There will be no services at this time.
