John N. Cerio's Obituary
John N. Cerio, 92, of Liverpool, passed away Friday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Michele and Lucia (Baranello) Cerio. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a long standing member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed as an Agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. John cherished all of his friends, especially Jimmy DePalma, with whom he grew up. John enjoyed his time at the Town of Salina Senior Meetings, was an avid gardener and sculptor, and recently received first place honors in the Syracuse VA Medical Center’s annual Veterans Creative Arts Exhibition. His work, “Agnus Dei”, was later displayed at the Delavan Art Gallery. Most of all John loved dancing and sharing his wealth of stories and experiences with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary R. (Dateno) Cerio in 2013, his brother, Francis Cerio and his sister, Maria Cerio.
John is survived by his two sons, Mark D. Cerio of Southern California and John T. (Leslie) Cerio of Hingham, MA., his daughter, Judi A. Cerio of Liverpool; three grandchildren, Gabriella, Maria, and Julia; his niece Paula who was like a daughter to him, along with many other nieces, nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 7:45 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of John’s life at 8:45 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
