John A. D'Amelio's Obituary
On Sunday, April 21, 2024, John A. D’Amelio, son of the late Dante and Rosalie D’Amelio peacefully passed away with family by his side. John is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Plumb) D’Amelio and four children: Debra (Daniel) Collins, of No. Reading, MA, John (Vanessa) D’Amelio, of Newton, MA, Denise (Kenneth) Hildreth, of Jamesville, NY and Michael D’Amelio, and future daughter-in-law Dawn Shannon of Clifton Park, NY.
John was so proud of all his grandchildren: Emily (Christopher) Emerson, Sarah, Kenneth Jr., Lindsey and Zachary Hildreth, Jeny and Joseph Collins, Sophia, Cecilia, Isabella and Katarina D’Amelio, Dylan D’Amelio, and future granddaughters AJ and Elysia Shannon of Clifton Park, NY. He is also survived by his loving nieces, a nephew, and cousins. John is predeceased by his sister, Marie Luranc.
John earned his BS degree from Syracuse University. He proudly served six years in the US Army Reserve. Professionally, he spent his entire career in the food business, earning the respect of many loyal friends and business owners. He served twice as President of the Frozen Foods Assoc. and a member of the Grocery Merchandisers and Retailers.
John was an avid SU sports fan, always flying his SU flag for games. He was a great supporter of his kids and grandkid’s sports in school; Seneca River South Baseball League, SRS football, field hockey, JD volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and Midstate Youth Hockey ice hockey, and various club programs. John served as Midstate Youth Hockey Travel Team Competitive Director and Disciplinary Director.
John leaves a legacy of family first, loyalty to friends, hard work, and commitment. His love and values will live on in the hearts and lives of those he loved.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated AT 10:00 AM on Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Church in Utica. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.
