John N. Episcopo, Sr.'s Obituary
John N. Episcopo, Sr., 93, of Minoa, NY, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, on National Funeral Directors Recognition Day. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Battista and Angelina (Pastore) Episcopo. John was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the VFW Association, as well as the U.S.S. Wisconsin (BB64) Battleship Association. He graduated from Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science and was a Licensed Funeral Director with the Pirro Family since June 1, 1946, and for many years with Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home. He was a member of the Onondaga-Oswego Funeral Directors Association and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Minoa.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Alice (Angeloro) Episcopo in 1993, his granddaughter, Valerie S. Episcopo in 1995, his twin brother, Rocco (Janet) Episcopo, and brother-in-law, Stephen Angeloro.
John is survived by his daughter, Stephanie A. Locy of SC; two sons, John N. (Beth) Episcopo, Jr. of Fl, and Michael D. (Shelly) Episcopo of Cicero; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Anna Smith; his brother, Dominick (Sharon) Episcopo; sister-in-law, Phyllis Angeloro, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, NY. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors next to his wife in Assumption Cemetery.
