John F. "Jack" Spina's Obituary
John F. “Jack” Spina, 93, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Crouse Hospital. Jack was born in Syracuse, son of the late Frank and Marie (Mento) Spina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII. Jack worked 44 dedicated years with General Electric and continued working another 27 years with the Onondaga County Sheriffs Department. He was an avid golfer and mall walker. Jack also enjoyed gardening and hunting and especially loved spending time at his camp with family and friends.
He is predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Simard. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Greta (Becker) Spina; four sons, Jim (Anne) Spina, John Spina, Bill Spina and Joe (Jane) Spina; three daughters, Peggy (Dave) Sampson, Maureen Bulla and Diane (Darryl) Card; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special “Thank You” to the Emergency Dept. at Crouse Hospital for their exceptional compassion and care.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
