John L. Fazio's Obituary
John L. Fazio, 79, of Cicero, NY, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025 at Francis House. Born on April 23, 1946, John was a man whose life was defined by dedication to his community, his students, and, above all, his beloved family.
John devoted his entire professional life to the field of education. For 42 years, he served the students and families of the Syracuse City School District, leaving an indelible mark on generations of learners and colleagues. His commitment to making a difference in the lives of children was both admirable and unwavering.
While his career was important, John's greatest passion was his family. He was the devoted husband of Sally (Spillett) Fazio for 54 wonderful years; a partnership built on mutual respect and deep love. He was a constant source of support and pride for his children, Amy and son-in-law, Gregg Evans and John (Patches Zemotel) Fazio, his true joy came from his role as "Papa" to his four cherished grandchildren, Kaleigh, Ashley and Kyle Evans, and Ellie Zemotel. John is also survived by his sister, Annemarie (Jerry) Galloway, and his sisters-in-law, Susan (John) Nicholson and Jeanne Spillett. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched with his generosity and kindness.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 9:00 – 9:45 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, in the Kennedy Room at 409 S. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 10:00 am at the church. He will be laid to rest in North Syracuse Cemetery.
