John C. Fitzgerald "Fitz"'s Obituary
John C. Fitzgerald, “Fitz”, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late John J. and Rose (Crosby) Fitzgerald, Fitz served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1973. He graduated from the US Navy nuclear power school as well as submarine school. While in the Navy, Fitz proudly served on the USS Tinosa and the USS Skate. After his service, he was employed as a construction service manager with the New York Power Authority at the James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego, where he obtained a senior reactor operators license. Fitz was a handyman and loved woodworking. He was an avid trap shooter and proud member of the Baldwinsville Rod and Gun Club. One of his favorite hobbies was working on his train set with John James. Most of all, he enjoyed traveling the world with his beautiful wife, and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, John is predeceased by his grandson, John H. Fitzgerald, and his sister, Julie DeLuca.
John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donna (Dunn) Fitzgerald; his children, John D. (Jennifer), and Kathleen Fitzgerald; a daughter-in-law, Monica Fitzgerald; siblings, Robert Fitzgerald, and Alice McCann; grandchildren, Donna (Michael) Yerry, Jackson and Madison Doner, and Kaylie Walters; great-grandchildren, John James Fitzgerald, and Logan and Nicholas Walters; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass in celebration of John’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 S. Main St. N. Syracuse, NY 13212. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
