John L. Fortino's Obituary
John L. Fortino, 81, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital due to complications of Covid. He was born in Syracuse to the late Louis and Helen (Mahar) Fortino. John worked at Syracuse China from 1958 – 2001 and held various jobs there, including foreman and methods analyst. Faith was important to John; he was a communicant and usher at Assumption Church, served as chairperson for many church fundraisers in the 80’s, and served as president of the parish council. John also enjoyed baseball, his favorite team was the Yankees, and he was the president of Salem Hyde Little League from 1975 – 1978.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, John M. Fortino in 1988.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary F. (Carno) Fortino; sons, James L. and Stephen J. Fortino; a daughter, Regina M. (Bob) Fenner; grandchildren, Marisa, John, Michael, Victoria and Emily; along with several cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Loretto Nursing Home and the MICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A private funeral mass will be held for immediate family. He will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
