John D. Fortino, Sr.'s Obituary
John D. Fortino, Sr., 85, of Brewerton, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late John and Lena (Luckette) Fortino. John was a member of the Teamsters Local 317 since 1951. During that time, he worked for Johnson’s Motor Lines, Santaro Trucking, Richards Freight Line, and Capria Brothers Trucking. Upon his retirement, he started his own used car dealership which he ran until 2013. John attended weekly church services at The Lighthouse Church of God for the last 9 years.
Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Joan (Newell) Fortino in 2005. He is also predeceased by his children, Carol, Susan, and Cathy, as well as his brothers, Thomas, Robert, Ronald, Matthew, and Donald.
John is survived by 9 children, Sally “Joanne” Jones, Donna Fortino, Jeannie Boland, John (Janine) Fortino, Judy (Jimmy) Bucher, David (Brenda) Fortino, June (Donnie) Atkins, Joseph (BillieJo) Fortino, and Randall (Alexis) Fortino; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Darrell Fortino, Joanie Saya, Linda Hatter, and Darlene Fortino; brother-in-law, Randy Newell, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service in celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
