John Angelo Ianzito's Obituary
John Angelo Ianzito of Liverpool passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the age of 82, with his family by his side. He graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School in 1954, friends called him “Butch”. Following graduation, he became a heavy equipment engineer and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (Union 158) for 40 plus years. After 42 years of working, he retired and moved to Florida during the winter with his wife for 13 years.
A long-time residence of Liverpool, John made many contributions to the community. He shared his time and talent as a craftsman to help others and various organizations. John was a volunteer on projects at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was recognized as Knight of the month and year. John was an active member of the Pastimes Club, Italian American Club and Moose Club.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Italy and took several cruises with his children and grandchildren. He was an active outdoors man who enjoyed playing golf, spending time on his boat fishing and a competitive bocce ball player. Many weekends were spent camping with his family and friends. John was very social, had charisma and willingly gave his opinion on many topics.
Surviving is his loving wife, Mary (Basla) Ianzito of 61 years; children, Linda (William) Bibbens, Peter (Sharon) Ianzito, Dave Ianzito and Mary (Steven) Neelin; grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Brown, Jeffrey (Lauren) Bibbens, Justin (Denise) Ianzito, Stephen (Lindsey) Ianzito and great-grandson, Michael Carter Brown.
John’s family would like to thank the staff at Caregivers of Liverpool, Silver Fox Senior Social Club and Hospice of CNY.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 am on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 9:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
