John J. Leo Jr.'s Obituary
John J. Leo, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at St. Joe’s Hospital on February 22, 2018. He was born in Syracuse on September 17, 1948, the son of the late John J. Leo, Sr. and Mary A. (Solazzo) Leo. He was a Boy Scout, altar boy, baseball player, and a confirmed Catholic. John was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School (1966) in Syracuse; he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves with the 108th Tactical Control Squadron from 1967 until 1973. John received a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from the College of St. Rose in Albany.
He married Mary Anne on June 19, 1971; He retired as assistant commissioner of the Onondaga County Transportation Department in 2008.
John loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, the history and culture of Syracuse and Central New York, Italian traditions, Syracuse University sports, wood working, and the St. Anthony’s alumni association.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Mark Leo.
John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Anne (Smith) Leo; his children John (Ursula) Leo and Erin (Charles) Lanning; his brothers, Paul (Rebecca) Leo, Steven (Leslie) Leo; his sister, Marlene Leo; two granddaughters, and five nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 9 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 10 A.M. in St. Rose Church, North Syracuse. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00- 7:00 P.M. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse.
