John A. Lobello, Sr.'s Obituary
John A. Lobello, Sr., 95, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022. He was born in Syracuse on August 24, 1926 to the late Nicholas and Sarah (Congel) Lobello and later graduated from North High School. While at North High School, John played football for three years and was elected Captain during his last term. John was also voted “The Boy Who Did Most for North” and was a member of the Class Day Committee. In the following years, John married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Testa and went on to own and operate Velvet Cleaners for 30 years. Never resting on his laurels, John was offered an inventory assessor position with Industrial Appraisal Company in Pittsburgh, PA, beginning a new career that would last for 30 years and finally retiring at the age of 80. In his spare time, John liked to take advantage of his Real Estate Broker’s License, often in search of new opportunities. John was also a member of the Sacred Heart Society and Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Peter; his sisters, Lena Lobello and Jennie Reale and his trusted brother-in-law, John Reale.
John is survived by his loving wife, Gloria (Testa) Lobello; his children, Nicholas (Karen) Lobello of Wellington, FL and John Jr. of Liverpool; grandson, Michael (Kasia) Lobello of Pottstown, PA; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Madeline Lobello; sister-in-law, Gemma (Testa) Althoff, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A calling hour will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 am on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash. St. Syracuse. A funeral mass will follow at 12 pm in the church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s name may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse, NY 13208.
