John M. Marnell's Obituary
John M. Marnell, 90, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Frank and Fannie Marnell. John was an Army veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his friends. He was also an avid sports fan who loved the NY Yankees and S.U. John was the proud owner of the Marnell Shoe Service in Westvale Plaza for 46 years.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Josephine (Carbone) Marnell in 2010; his sister, Fannie (Marnell) Disalto and brothers, Frank and Howard Marnell.
John is survived by his two daughters, Joanne Marnell of Liverpool and Carolyn Duerr (Art VanGelder) of North Syracuse; his son, James (Kathy) Marnell of Rochester; three grandchildren, Carrie, John and Megan; one great-granddaughter, Natalie; two brothers, Thomas and Clement Marnell, brother-in-law, Bruno Carbone; sister-in-law, Mary (Carbone) DiMaio, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 9:30 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
