John D. Nappa's Obituary
John D. “Dick” Nappa, 97, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 28, 2023. He was born in Syracuse, NY, son of the late John A. and Clara (DeYulio) Nappa. Dick was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII, where he played Taps as a Bugler. He worked over 40 dedicated years as a Tractor Trailer Driver for General Electric. Dick was an avid NY Yankees fan; he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, crafts and traveling with his family. Most importantly, he loved spending time with friends and family, especially his beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sons-in-law, Tom Erwin, and Rodney McCabe; siblings, Eda P. Nappa, Frank Nappa, Neil Nappa and Florence Bonacci.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Dorothy “Susie” (Michel) Nappa whom he cherished and adored; four daughters, Cindy McCabe, Debbie (Sam) Tassone, Kathi (Kutz) Guanciale and Laurie Erwin; five grandchildren, Jessica (Dave) Fisselbrand, John (Aimee) Tassone, Michael Guanciale, Nicholas Guanciale (Amanda) and Danielle Erwin; three great-grandchildren, Jack Tassone, Molly Fisselbrand and Adriana Tassone; two sisters, Lucy Cardarelli and Eda Hinman, along with several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY, followed by interment with military honors in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
