John L. Powers' Obituary
John L Powers, 92, of Liverpool NY, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 with his family by his side.
John was born in Churubusco NY, the son of Edwin and Delia Laclair Powers. He married Luella Taylor at St. George’s Church in Burke NY in 1954.
After attending Chateaugay High School, he began a career in long haul trucking.
He worked for ABF and Ryder PIE. He retired from truck driving in 1991. He was known as the “Irish Slow Poke” with his truck driver friends. His grandchildren knew him as “Papa”.
John was a kind and generous man who loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings, traveling in the Adirondacks and spending winter months in Florida.
He was a long-time member of Epiphany Parish and the St. Joseph’s Senior Club.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Luella Powers; daughters: Pamela Smith (Dave), Lois Powers (Tom Gafrancesco), Debora Rabideau (Jan Cary), Susan Phillips (Gary), and sons: John E. Powers and Patrick R. Powers (Kim); grandchildren: Danielle Landsberg (Ryan), Stephanie Perry (Dave), Jessica Phillips, Rebecca Phillips, Jacob Powers (Kayla), Brandon Powers (Deistiny) and JoAnne Powers. He was blessed with 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Veronica Chatelle (Chuck) and Catherine LaClair (Donald); brother, Kenneth Powers (Theresa); and granddaughter, Jennifer Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00am - Epiphany Parish, 1001 Tulip Street, Liverpool NY 13088. There will be a celebration of John’s life after the mass at the parish center. Interment will occur later in the Spring.
Donations may be made to Mary and Joseph’s Pantry located at Epiphany Parish.
