John A. Rotondo's Obituary
John A. Rotondo, 91, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.
John was born on March 8, 1935, in Syracuse, NY, to Sam and Josie (Marano) Rotondo. He graduated from North High School, where he met Marion Barber, the love of his life and his wife of 69 years. He went on to graduate from Le Moyne College before joining the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a platoon leader and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.
John enjoyed a highly successful business career as co-owner of Rotondo Warehouse and RAK Express, along with several other business ventures. He was also deeply involved in civic and political affairs, serving as Chairman of the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency and as a member of the District Attorney's Advisory Council.
John lived a long, active, and fulfilling life centered on faith, family, and service to others. He coached his sons in Lyncourt Little League and was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Church, where he sang in the choir, and performed with the Pompeian Players chorus. For more than 30 years, John and Marion joined a close-knit group of sixteen couples—most of whom were fellow North High School classmates—on an annual trip to Singer Island, Florida creating lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Known affectionately as "Generous John," he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for family, friends, and his community will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Josie Rotondo, and his brother, Michael Rotondo.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Marion Rotondo (Barber); his brother, Sam Rotondo; his four children, Susan Lloyd, Jack Rotondo (Debi), Jeanne Pieklik (Frank, deceased), and Rob Rotondo (Carol); nine grandchildren: Hannah, Tim, Katie, Jack, Brianne, Kristopher, Stephanie, Mike, and Ben; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 9 – 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, NY.
