John D. Schapley's Obituary
John D. Schapley, 85, of Syracuse, passed away Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse and served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. John was employed as a truck driver and was a member of Teamster Local 317. He was then employed with Crouse Hospital in the security department for 15 years. John was an avid bowler and great baseball player, playing for the Red Sox Farm Team after serving in the U.S. Navy.
John is survived by his loving wife, Genevieve C. (Ontano) Schapley; his four sons, Michael J. (Donna) Schapley of North Syracuse; John W. Schapley of Syracuse; Dennis P. Schapley of Liverpool and Christopher J. (Karen) Schapley of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tammy, Tina, John, Samantha, Madison and Logan; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
