Joseph J. Barbetta's Obituary
Joseph J. Barbetta, 85, of Syracuse, passed away on Monday at the Veteran's Hospital. He was born in Syracuse and was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Joe was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was an avid golfer playing for many years in the Pompei Golf league. After retiring as Superintendent of Shipping and Receiving at Carrier Corporation for 35 years he spent many years working for Royal Electric. Joe enjoyed spending time with his loving family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Frances (Curcio) Barbetta and his wife Delores in 2012 and his brother, Richard Barbetta in 2013. Joe is survived by his son, James J. (Donna) Barbetta of Syracuse; his daughter, Donna (Kevin) Salamone of Manlius; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Vespi, Ashley Barbetta, Joseph Salamone and Jeffrey Salamone; three great- grandchildren, Elena, Antonio and Nichola; three sisters, Carmella Goodson, Rosemary (Emory) Nahay and Joanne Barbetta and his best friend, Tony Lanza.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei / St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery . Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse Today (Tuesday) from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Our Lady of Pompei / St. Peter Holy Name Society will perform their ritual at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
