Joseph M. Buczek's Obituary
Joseph Michael Buczek, 73, of Liverpool, passed away Saturday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Joe was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, graduating from Blodgett Vocational High School and later enlisting in the United States Navy. He traveled the world on the U.S.S. Taussig, was a Vietnam Veteran and recently enjoyed attending naval reunions. He retired from New Venture Gear after 30 years. Joe enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, but his favorite place was his camp in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River. Joe was an avid fisherman. He loved being in his boat as much as sitting on the deck of his camp watching the sunset with his loving wife, Marie.
Joe’s greatest joy came from spending time with, and taking care of, his family. After 47 years of marriage, he and Marie still hadn’t run out of things to talk about. He was proud of his two children and was teaching his grandsons, whom he referred to as “his buddies,” to fish and love the river as much as he did.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Feak) Buczek, and a brother, Tom Buczek.
Joe is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Marie (Leach) Buczek; a son, Joseph J. (Karen) Buczek of Minoa; a daughter, Nancy A. Cole of DeWitt; two grandsons, Alexander and Joshua Cole; a brother, John “Jack” Buczek of Liverpool; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 10 AM to NOON on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, followed by a funeral service in celebration of Joe’s life at NOON, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Burial with military honors will follow in the Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery on Howlett Hill Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michael's Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208.
