Joseph F. Cannizzo, Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph F. Cannizzo, Sr., 74, of East Syracuse, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a long illness with heart disease. Joe was born in Syracuse to the late Frank and Helen Cannizzo and grew up on the North side. Joe’s family lived in the Sedgwick area and he attended North High where he formed deep friendships that would last him a lifetime. At North High Joe met his wife of 47 years, Esther (DiCarlo). They had three children who they raised in East Syracuse. Joe owned his own business, C-Music Corp, an amusement vending company, for more than 50 yrs. Until recently, he would still go to his office to make sure things were running smoothly. Joe was very well respected in his business and there wasn’t a customer or competitor who didn’t like him. He treated everyone with respect and would always go the extra mile for anyone. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back while never expecting anything in return. He was a genuinely a great guy. Joe, with family in tow, hunted, fished, golfed and skied. In doing so he passed on a passion for these activities to his family. Joe was a 35 plus year member at Lakeshore Yacht & CC and a past member of several hunting clubs. As Joe’s golf handicap rose he returned to his greatest passion, fishing, which eventually became a business. He got his captains license and founded Lady E Charters which enjoyed over 15 years of success on Lake Ontario. Joe could always find the fish. He was also a long time SU season ticket holder and a big Yankees fan.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Esther Jean (DiCarlo) Cannizzo in 2008.
Joe is survived by his three children, daughters, Jackie Cannizzo (Char Pletz) of Atlanta, GA and Kelley Champa of Manlius; son, Joseph F. Cannizzo, Jr. (Julie) of Manlius; seven grandchildren, Nicholas and Timmy Champa, Francis, Mia, Talia, Bella and Will Cannizzo; his sister, Marie Belliboni (Armando), along with several nieces and nephews.
Joe’s family would like to thank Dr. Silverman and his staff as well as the nurses and nurse’s aides at St. Joseph’s Hospital‘s PCU for giving Joe the best possible care during his last days.
