Joseph M. Cincotta's Obituary
Joseph M. Cincotta, 94, a local farmer, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2026. Born in Fulton, NY, Joseph was the elder of two sons of the late Dr. Anthony J. Cincotta and Theresa Mehegan Cincotta.
He attended Lakemont Academy and graduated in 1948, later earning his degree from Hobart College in 1952. Following college, Joseph relocated to Palmetto, Florida, where he began a lifelong career in agriculture, raising tomatoes on family-owned farmland at Piney Point. He later planted citrus orchards on the property, which was eventually purchased by the State of Florida and developed into what is now the Port of Manatee. Joe then moved to Bradenton, where he continued farming, raising cattle and a variety of crops. In retirement, he settled in Lakewood Ranch. Joseph enjoyed snow skiing and frequently traveled out West to pursue his passion. Closer to home, he could often be found on the golf course or competing in table tennis tournaments, where he regularly won in his age group. A dedicated sports fan, he enthusiastically supported the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays, both in person and on TV.
He cherished time with family and friends, especially during holidays spent at his home or in a restaurant. He also enjoyed traveling with friends on extended trips, creating lasting memories along the way. Joseph was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Armand; his son, Anthony Edward; his great-granddaughter, Charlene; and his former wife, Marguerite.
He is survived by his son, Mark; his stepson, Steve Stephens (Debbie); his five grandchildren, Teara, Marquee, Nadia, Marcus, and Joseph; and his two great-grandchildren, Jack and Milly May. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joan; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his longtime friend, Jan Kline. Joseph was blessed with a dedicated and compassionate team of caregivers.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Sandra, Micala, Maria, and Hospice of Sarasota, as well as to his stepson, Steve, for their care and support.
He was a former parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Skyway Funeral Home.
A memorial service may be held at a later date. In accordance with Joseph's wishes, memorial contributions were made per his will.
