Joseph Angelo Conte's Obituary
Joseph Angelo Conte, 89, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday April 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Italian immigrants from Minturno, Italy. Born in Jamesville, NY on July 3, 1935, to Vincenzo and Elisabetta (Lombardi) Conte. Joseph graduated from Jamesville High School and was a member of the Air Force National Guard.
Joseph moved to Syracuse and married his loving wife of almost 59 years, Cosimetta “Connie” Pisani on June 11, 1966. Together they raised four children while he was employed as a foreman at the Jamesville Quarry/Allied Chemical for 34 years. Joseph retired from Allied Chemical and proudly worked as the shopkeeper at the City of Syracuse Police Garage until he retired at the ripe old age of 79.
Affectionately known as Uncle Joe, Uncle Pepe, Pip or his most loved title, Grandpa, he thoroughly enjoyed attending various events of his grandchildren and family members. Joseph was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Syracuse University football and basketball teams. He also participated in the LACE Dance Club and the Italian American Heritage Club.
A devout Catholic, Joseph was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 50 years.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, siblings: Anthony (Shirley), John (Dianne), Mary Zimmer (Joseph), Marguerite “Margie” Eller, infant sister Civita, nephews, Joseph Zimmer and Joseph Eller.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Connie; cherished children: Jean Marie, Elizabeth (Robert Geoghegan), Joseph (Meredith), and Mary Joan; grandchildren: Joseph, Gianna (Tyler), Mary, Sara, Mira, Joseph “JJ”, and great grandson, Grayson Joseph; his brother, Vincent (Carmella); brother-in-law, Robert Eller; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, too many to count, and special neighbors, Jim and Beverly Powell.
A Mass of Christian burial to honor Joseph’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Family and friends may attend calling hours prior to Mass from 8:45am to 10:15am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St., Syracuse, NY. Entombment with Military honors will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt at Our Lady of Hope Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
