Joseph R. Deapo, Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph R. Deapo, Jr., 61, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in Syracuse, and a 1979 graduate of Assumption Catholic Academy. Joseph was employed by Erie Materials for 23 years and was the coordinator of the outreach program for the Assumption Church Food Pantry. He was an avid sports fan, having played baseball, softball, and basketball for many years. He played with several teams in the city and county, ending his softball career with Franklin Bar and Grill. Joseph was a Yankees fan and a proud (or sad) New York Giants fan, depending on how you look at it. He was also a fan of Bruce Springsteen, having seen him in concert about 14 times.
Joseph was predeceased by his father, Joseph R. Deapo, Sr., in 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan (Fortuno); two children, Daniela and Matthew (Darlene); a grandson Archer, his mother Mary, two brothers, Jon and Jamie (Lorrie), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
Joseph will be remembered most for his sense of humor, big personality, and self-proclaimed charm and wit. There wasn’t a day that we weren’t laughing.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Joseph’s life will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Assumption Church, 812 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joseph’s memory to the Assumption Church Food Pantry.
