Joseph Gorgoni's Obituary
Joseph Gorgoni, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse to the late Benedetto and Mary (Tucci) Gorgoni, Joseph was a graduate of Minoa High School and a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. In 1959, Joe and Mary opened Joseph’s Hair Stylists on Warren St. in Syracuse where they began their 61-year business partnership. They later relocated to the Jefferson Towers across the hall from Barbuto’s Restaurant. In 1982, Mary and Joe expanded their operation and moved the salon to the Carriage House on the corner of Townsend and Washington St. until retiring in 2020. Joseph was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, and skeet shooter. He also enjoyed cooking, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved the lifetime relationships he established with his customers over 60 years.
Along with his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his sister, Mary Brigida; and 3 brothers, Louis, Anthony “Tan,” and Benjamin Gorgoni.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary (Polimino) Gorgoni; daughter, Marisa (Albert) Ovadias; sons, James (Lisa) Gorgoni, and Joseph “Duke” (Stephanie) Gorgoni; 8 grandchildren, Mathew, Michael, and Luke Ovadias, Alex and Mikey Gorgoni, Gabriela, Salvatore, and Adelena Gorgoni; a sister, Lucille “Babe” Anthony; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY 13212, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Joseph’s life at 12:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joseph’s memory may be made to the Crouse Health Foundation, 736 Irving Ave. Syracuse, NY 13210.
