Joseph G. Jacobs' Obituary
Joseph G. Jacobs, 89, of Liverpool, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He was born on May 8, 1931. Joseph was the owner and president of Sunrise Tomato Co. Inc. from 1962 – 2005 in Syracuse. Prior to that, he was vice president of R.J. Fruit & Produce Trucking in Jersey City, NJ and vice president of Sunrise Fruit Co. in Richmond, Virginia. He was a member of the Utica Citizen Cadet Corp and served in the Virginia National Guard as a Sergeant. He was an Honorary Citizen of Boys Town, member of Field & Stream. Joseph received several Certificates of Appreciation in his lifetime for his generous support of many organizations and charities.
Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He also owned several racehorses and loved to be at the racetrack. Joseph spent a lot of time at his homes in Alexandria Bay and West Palm Beach with family and friends.
Joseph was a very generous, kind, loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.
Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Mabel Jacob; brother, Richard Jacob; sisters, Viola Talley and Madlyn George.
Joseph is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Joan; five children, Betty Jacobs, Carol (Doug) Haynes, Patty (Gene) Benedetti, JoAnn (Jeff) Nesci, and Richard (Danielle) Jacobs; grandchildren, Crystal Essig, Kevin (Trenley) and Brandon Haynes, Mario and Antonio Benedetti, Jacob and Joelle Nesci, Jozef, Jaeden, and Jaxon Jacobs; a great-granddaughter, Avianna Haynes; a brother, George Jacob; a sister, Sheila Ames, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private funeral service in celebration of Joseph's life will be held at the convenience of the family. Joe will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St. Syracuse, NY 13204.
