Joseph Melfi Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph Melfi Jr., 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2012, after a very courageous battle with lymphoma.
Joe was born in Syracuse and was a 1962 graduate of Liverpool High School where he was active and excelled in many sports. He went on to work at Porter Cable, Crowley Foods, and retired after many years of dedicated service from Rite-Aid.
Joe was an avid sports enthusiast, he loved to play golf, rain, shine, and sometimes snow. He played softball for 30 plus years on various central New York teams, even playing on teams with his children. Joe was a beloved softball coach for 15 years with the Marcellus Mustangs which brought him so much joy and pride.
Joe was the most kind, caring, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend to so many. Although his loss has left a huge void for his family, he will be an angel looking down on everyone and his memories will be forever shared. Joe was predeceased by 2 brothers Vito and Steven Melfi. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Virginia Fowler-Melfi. His cherished children, Erika (TJ) Sennett, Richard (Kelly) Melfi, James Melfi, and Patricia Melfi-Cottrill (Jay Rosetti). His 12 grandchildren whom he adored, Crew, Mikael Ann, Joey, Riley, Jacob, Cole, Nathan, Taylor, Kyra, Lexi, Nicholas, and Justin. He is also survived by his beloved parents Joseph and Henrietta Melfi, brother John (Sharon) Melfi, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dog Jazz.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00am in Our Lady Of Pompei / St. Peter Church. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial will take place at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org
