Joseph J. Melfi Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph J. Melfi, Sr., 92, of Liverpool, passed away Friday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph grew up on the Northside. He was a life communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church. He was employed by Porter Cable and Rockwell International as a Machinist. He retired in 1988. Joseph was a member of the Salina Seniors, Rockwell Retirees and Fuoco's Athletic Club. Joseph coached his sons Steven and John in Little league and all four sons in Babe Ruth. He played baseball for many years. He was an avid bowler and a huge New York Yankee fan. He loved and lived his life for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph was predeceased by his sons, Vito, Steven (Linda) and Joseph Jr. and his brothers Anthony and Alberto.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Henrietta (DeStefano) Melfi of Liverpool, his son John (Sharon) Melfi of Cicero, his sisters Lucy (Nick) Vecchiarelli of Syracuse and Virginia Albanese of East Syracuse; his sister-in-law Donna Melfi of Syracuse, his daughter-in-law Virginia Melfi of Camillus; 12 grandchildren Jim, Patti, Gina, Rick, Johnny, Steven, Erika, Nikki, Brandon, Anna, Laura and Vito, 14 Great Grandchildren Christopher, Jake, Taylor, Cole, Mikael Ann, Kyra, Nate, Joey, Lexi, Nicholas, Justin, Riley, Crew, and Ayra; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Sunday from 1 to 4 PM.
