Joseph A. Nastri's Obituary
Joseph A. (Joe) Nastri of Eastwood died peacefully at age 97 in the VA hospital on Saturday. He was a resident of Syracuse where he was born and will be laid to rest. Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary (Gilbert), his five children, Jan (Harriet), Michael (Margie), Joseph (Terry), Mary Anne Crawford (Al), and Anthony (Joe). Also surviving him are his 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his mother Antoinette (DiMasi) and father, Joseph, brothers Edmund and Reno, and sister Anna.
Joe was a graduate of Norwich HS in Norwich NY and attended St. Bonaventure College. He also attended Fordam School of Law. Joe was a Veteran of WWII and participated for several years in the Civil Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Joe spent most of his career as a part owner, then sole proprietor of Nastri Auto Seat Covers on North Salina Street in Syracuse. Like his mother and children, Joe was a licensed real estate agent and real estate broker in Central New York.
Joe’s hobbies included water and snow skiing, boating, golf, gardening and taking joy and pride in his family. Summer weekends were spent with his children and grandchildren at his cottage on Oneida Lake. Winter Sundays were also a family affair where they often gathered for dinner at his house. Joe enjoyed conversation and poetry and the company of friends and family. He will be greatly missed in this world, but he will enjoy his new audience of old and new friends to charm with his stories
Calling hours are from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13th at Our Lady of Pompei Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse, NY with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions can me made to Golisano’s Children’s Hospital.
