Joseph A. "Sarge" Nesci's Obituary
Joseph A. “Sarge” Nesci, 92, of Liverpool, passed away at Upstate University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse to the late Larry and Concetta (Santaro) Nesci, Joseph was a graduate of North High School. He was very proud of his military service, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. During his service he earned several commendations including the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and the Purple Heart. After his military service, Joseph attended Syracuse University, worked at Byrne Dairy and then joined American Airlines and retired from there in 1992.
Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife Maria; son Larry; brothers, James, Larry, Tony, and Patrick; sisters, Carmella, Teresa, Eleanor, Lucille, and Anna.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Richard) Enright; grandson, Richard (Tatiana) Enright; great-grandchildren, Anna, Ryleigh, and Richard Enright; brothers, Michael, and Richard Nesci; sister in laws Carol Ann, Annette and Karen along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and extended family in Australia.
A funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in Epiphany Parish – Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave. Liverpool. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Perla at Upstate University Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Khan at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dr. Peter Christiano with CNY Family Care, Nancy Kibby at the VA Hospital, and the ICU team on the 6th floor at Upstate University Hospital, especially Nurse Evelyn Kanquru-Walden, and Dr. Berty Baskaran.
