We (retired) teachers can never forget the embracing care that Joe gave both to our needy students and to us--who at times were SO in need of support and encouragement---the type that only he could bring----a one of a kind gentleman of virtue, talent and distinction. I am sorry to hear about your loss. I knew Joe when we worked for a city summer
program. It involved training for teenagers to give them work experience while learning new skills.
Joe was an excellent counselor. He took many of the young people and turned their employment experience around. Joe was firm and fair when dealing with the issues and we often saw a difference in the attitude and work habits of people that Joe counselled.
Joe believed going that "extra mile" for people. There are many, many individuals out there who Joe with whom Joe had a direct positive effect.

I'm so sorry to read of your dad's passing. His smile in the picture made me smile, and I am sure you have many wonderful memories of him that will ease your sadness. Maria, I remember speaking with you quite some time ago about how important our dads were in our children's lives. How wonderful that you all had him for so many years. Just looking at your Father's smile I can tell he was so loved by all of you . I don't get the paper but went on line today to read and saw the write up of your Father and Grandfather . He looks like he lived his life to the fullest and with pride . We were so sorry to hear of Joe's death. We remember him fondly. We both worked at CYO and day camp, as a matter of fact that is where we met and have been married for 51 years. We have many wonderful memories of Joe, his smiling face and his caring. He was a great "boss." My sister, Betty Jo, was also close to him (she passed away in 1992). You are in our prayers. God bless you.We are out of town or would be at Mass.
