Joseph F. Terranova's Obituary
Joseph F. Terranova, 89, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Friday at his home in his sleep. He was born in Syracuse, son of Joseph and Helen (Sharourn) Terranova. Joseph was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII. He retired from General Motors in 1988 after 40 years of work. He was a member of St. Daniel's Church, and formerly at St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse. Joseph was a Eucharistic Minister and usher at both churches. He was a past member of the Legion of Mary and supporter for the “Right to Life” for over 20 years. He loved playing golf and bowling.
Joseph was the strength of the family, always there for anyone in need. We all looked up to him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna P. Terranova on 11/22/2014; his daughter, Joanne M. Terranova on 2/3/2015, and daughter-in-law, Sabine D. Terranova on 12/24/2016.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Michael G. Terranova of Syracuse and Robert J. (Phena Alley) Terranova, Sr. of Amherst, NY; his daughter, Lisa M. (Dr. Stephen Pittelli) of San Luis Obispo, CA; grandson, Jeffrey M. Terranova of San Diego, CA; granddaughter, Katelyn E.(Jonathan) Dumigan of Syracuse; grandson, Robert J. Terranova, Jr., of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Stephanie L. Terranova of Amherst, NY; great-grandson, Alexander C. Dumigan of Syracuse, along with several, nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Joseph’s life at 12:10 PM in St. Daniel’s Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Daniel’s Church or Syracuse Right to Life.
