Joseph Volza's Obituary
Joseph Volza, 90, of Jamesville, passed away Wednesday at The Nottingham after a brief illness. He was born in Bari, Italy and served during WWII in the Italian Army as a Sergeant Major of an Artillery Battalion. Joseph resided in the Syracuse area since 1953. He was employed with Syracuse China for 35 years, retiring in 1986. Joseph was an avid gardener, loved making homemade wine and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maria (Montalbo) Volza; three children, Pasquale (Marguerite) Volza of Santa Fe, NM, Stefano (Patricia) Volza of Syracuse and Michele (PeggyAnn) Volza of New Hartford, NY; six grandchildren, Evelyn Cedrun, Joseph Volza, Maria Vargovich, Andrea Volza, Katherine Volza and John Volza; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Laura Acito-Volza of Italy. He was predeceased by his brother, Michele Volza. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in St. Daniel's Church, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Loretto Foundation, 1301 Nottingham Rd., Jamesville, NY 13078.
