Josephine (Morga) Ciero's Obituary
Josephine (Morga) Ciero, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 2nd at the age of 94. She was born, raised and spent her entire life on the North side of Syracuse.
She graduated from North High School and retired as the Secretary to the President of Maria Regina College. Jo held secretarial positions at the R. E. Dietz Company, Agway, Eclipse (Elmira, NY) and sold homes for Durston Reality.
Josephine was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church for her entire life. She served on Parish Council, was President of the St. John’s Mothers Guild, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. In addition, Jo was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3146.
She was an active member of the Martinettes’ Home Bureau “Club” and cherished her monthly meetings for over 50 years.
Throughout her life, she was praised by family and friends for her cooking and baking skills. Her most famous dishes included a unique fried chicken, macaroni tuna salad (at every family event!), lentil soup and “renowned” for the variety of Italian cookies prepared every major holiday and for special occasions.
Josephine was deeply loved by her family, friends and the many individuals she touched with her kindness throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her husband Tony, to whom she was married for 56 years (1949); her parents Stephen and Marianne; siblings, Jenny Morga, Rose (Andy) Romano, Paul (Olga) Morga, and Francis (Louis) Aiello.
Her survivors include sons, Anthony L. Ciero, Jr. (Joan) of Rochester, John N. Ciero (Michelle Karabinas) of Syracuse; grandchildren, Catherine (Rochester, NY), and Paul (Bronx, NY); her sister, Mary (Joe) Sacco of Scottsdale, Arizona; thirteen nieces, fifteen nephews, twenty grandnieces, twenty-one grandnephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 8:00 am on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Josephine’s life officiated by Fr. Lou Aiello at 9:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
