Josephine L. (Spensieri) Cupelo's Obituary
Josephine L. (Spensieri) Cupelo, 91, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Crouse Hospital. Josie was born in Syracuse to the late Carmen and Concetta (Monteleone) Spensieri. Upon graduating high school, Josie went to work for General Electric. After completing cosmetology school in New York City, she worked in the beauty salons at Addis & Co. and Chappell’s for many years. Later, Josie was employed as a secretary for the nursing department at Upstate Hospital. She also worked at the DMV.
Josie was devoted to her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant everything to her and brought her such great joy. Josie loved hosting holiday dinners and parties. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed keeping up with current events and was in constant contact with her many friends. We will miss you, Mom!
Besides her parents, Josie was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, John A. Cupelo in 2010.
Josie is survived by her daughters, Susan (Joseph) Bombard of Jamesville and Patricia (Steven) Brandt of Kirkville; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) McGovern, Christopher (Kathryn) Bombard, Joanna (Kevin) MacLachlan, Matthew (Bailey) Brandt, Natalie (Alex) Coots and Hannah (Graham) Custar; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Cupelo; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Monticello, and Carol Cupelo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 9:30 – 10:45 am on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs Street, Fayetteville, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Josie’s life at 11 am in the church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
