Josephine T. "Josie" (Fiumara) Barnello's Obituary
Josephine T. “Josie” (Fiumara) Barnello, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Carmela (Sgroi) Fiumara. She was a graduate of North High School in 1952. Josephine enjoyed golfing, reading, birdwatching, traveling, playing cards, games on her iPad, watching quiz shows, and being a social butterfly.
Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends any chance she could.
Along with her parents, Josie was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, William, in 2024; grandson, James Anthony (Tony); great grandson, Theodore, and five sisters.
She is survived by her six children, Deborah (Dominick) Piacquadio, John (Jeanne) Barnello, William (Maribeth) Barnello, Jr., Marie (Angelo) Barnello, Joseph (Kristine) Barnello, Michelle (John) Camobreco; nine grandchildren, Dominick (Brandy), Stefanie, William (Bethany), Joseph (Megan), Brittany, Madeline (Clayton), Lorenzo, and Josephine; eleven great-grandchildren, Dominick III, William IV, Arianna, Liam, Rehanna, Oliver, Noah, Amelia, Wells, and Clayton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Barnello family would like to thank her caregivers, Amanda, Kate, Emily, the Staff of Parkrose Estates, and Hospice of CNY for their loving care.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:30 am, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Josephine’s life at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY 13212. Josephine will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Josephine’s memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or Hospice of CNY.
