Josephine (Catania) Magari's Obituary
Josephine (Catania) Magari, 93, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Josephine was born February 10, 1924 in Syracuse to the late Joseph and Vincenzia Catania. She graduated from Central High School and married her husband Anthony, Sr. on November 18, 1945. She was an avid bowler, card player, but the true joy of Josephine’s life were her three children and four grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a former communicant of St. Peters Church prior to joining Blessed Sacrament Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Magari, Sr. in 1989; her son, Frank A. Magari, Sr. in 2015; two brothers, Dominic Catania in 1967 and Frank Catania in 1997.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Linda M. Anderson and her husband, Charles of Manlius; her son, Anthony, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Syracuse; grandchildren, Gena-Marie, Frank, Jr., Anthony III and Nicholas; daughter-in-law, Barbara Magari; and great-granddaughter, Mia Lena; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Josephine was the shining light of her loving family and will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 am on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, and 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
