Josephine A. Torrillo's Obituary
Josephine Anne (Scro) Torrillo, lifelong resident of Syracuse, NY, passed away suddenly on August 6, 2017. She was 68 years old. The youngest daughter of Salvatore and Mary Scro, Josie attended Henninger High School and was the first woman in her family to attend college, earning her bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne. As a young woman, Josie worked as office manager for her family’s business, Darling Ice Cream, and later at Nippon Express, a Japanese based international freight-forwarding firm. While starting her family, Josie joined E-Z Distributors Inc. as a Tupperware sales associate and quickly rose to top-level manager. Together with Ralph, her husband of 44 years, Josie raised five loving children who adored their mother for her patient and calm demeanor, supportive attitude, and sound advice. They also admired the career woman, who quietly earned promotions while caring for a busy family. In 1992, Josie began a 22-year long career at Syracuse University, working in their film and video distribution center. She retired as Assistant Director of Special Events. In retirement, Josie remained active, working part time at her second home and place of faithful worship, River of Life Family Church. From the largest work event to the smallest family gathering, Josie was the person you knew could always make things right. Beautiful in every sense of the word, she will live forever in our hearts.
Josie is survived by her spouse, Ralph A. Torrillo, Sr., children Toni Marie Zee (Adam), Sally Fisher (Tyrone), Ralph A. Torrillo, Jr. (Kimily), Joseph Carl Torrillo, and Carla Rae Torrillo; seven grandchildren; brothers Anthony and Joseph Scro, sister Mary Rose Zambri; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Vincent and Charles Scro, and sister Rosalie DiGregorio.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 11, from 4-8 P.M. at Thomas J. Pirro, Jr. Funeral Home, 3401 Vickery Rd, North Syracuse, NY. A celebration of her life will take place at River of Life Family Church, 750 James St., Syracuse, NY at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 12. Donations may be made to the church in Josie’s name.
