June (McDermott) Cecil's Obituary
June (McDermott) Cecil, a life-long resident of the Syracuse area, passed away Saturday at the Francis House. She retired from Carrier Corporation after 32 years in 1984 as the manager of the Traffic Department and as a founding member became the membership chair of the Carrier Retirees Association. She lived with her parents until their deaths, Alice (Resch) McDermott in 1982 and Bernard Francis McDermott in 1987.
As the oldest of seven children, June loved family life and grew up on the North side, upstairs from her maternal grandparents at 113 South Carbon Street, where she graduated from North High School. Always an excellent student, she liked reading, sewing, bowling, traveling to Florida to visit grandchildren and spending summers at Cape Vincent with her partner, Nick Gemma.
Surviving are her two daughters, Judy Cecil of Syracuse and Linda Cecil of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Suzanne Denero, Christopher (Holly Kist) Pollichemi, Treena Denero, Adrienne Pollichemi (David Schorn) and Christie (Andres) Bastardo; four great-grandchildren, Jada Denero, Logan Schorn, Kierin Bastardo and Liam Schorn; four siblings, Bernard (Melva) McDermott, Jr., Alice (Thomas) McDermott Costello, John (Patti) McDermott of Charleston, SC and Marilyn Sheatz of Port Richey, FL. Robert McDermott died in 1986 and Patrick McDermott died on June 1, 2012.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in Assumption Church, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
