Katherine M. "Katie (Grosso) Kroell's Obituary
Katherine M. “Katie” (Grosso) Kroell, 87, of East Syracuse, passed away Thursday morning, September 11, 2014. She was born in Syracuse on June 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Santa (Campanella) Grosso and Giuseppe Grosso. Katie enjoyed singing and she loved music. As a young woman in Syracuse, on occasion she sang on the radio. Katie worked at Witherill’s in Syracuse before moving to the District of Columbia. There she worked as a bookkeeper in the Statler-Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. and later was manager of NAEC, a luncheon club for executives. She also traveled extensively with her husband James, who was in the travel business.
She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Kroell, Sr. in February of 1992; her sister, Helen (Stabile) Capozzi; her brothers, Louis Stabile, Joseph Stabile, Carmen Stabile, William Clow, Sam Grosso and Leo Grosso.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Angela V. Pike; her sister, Mary (Stabile) Cerio; her sister-in-law, Camille Grosso; four granddaughters, Valerie, Brenda, Dale and Sandra; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Katherine’s life at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary of Sorrows Cemetery in Fairfax Station, Virginia at a later date. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
