Katherine E. "Kate" (Sorbello) Bennati's Obituary
Katherine E. “Kate” (Sorbello) Bennati, 101, of Syracuse, passed away at James Square Nursing Home on Saturday, February 28, 2015. She was born and raised on a farm in Canastota, NY, the daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine (Raite) Sorbello. Kate enjoyed her years working at General Electric retiring after 17 years of service. Some of her favorite activities were traveling to Italy with her late husband Eugene of 51 years, who passed away in 1991. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bocce ball and cooking. Kate was happiest in her kitchen preparing meals for the family and entertaining her large family at Sunday dinners.
She was also predeceased by seven siblings, Philip, Frank, Sam, Angelo, Dominick, Joseph and Mary Sgroi.
Kate is survived by her son, Eugene A. (Rosamond) Bennati of Sherrill, NY; her daughter, Lucille (George) Sears of Syracuse; five grandchildren, Brian, Michelle, Jackie, Thomas and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, George (Josephine) Sorbello of MA, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Kate’s life at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours for family and friends will be from 8:00 to 9:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 406 Court Street, Syracuse, NY 13208.
