Kimberly Marie (Kondra) Gallant's Obituary
It is with the deepest devastation that the Kondra and Gallant families report the passing of their dearest Kimberly Marie Gallant (nee Kondra).
At 51, Kimberly’s life was stolen by an elusive rare cancer. She was well loved in her community and her kindness touched everyone she met.
Born in Syracuse, NY, Kimberly was the eldest of three children. She attended Bishop Grimes High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications from New York Uni-versity, where she also received the Chancellor’s Award. Shortly after her college graduation, she met the man she would marry, Bob Gallant. They would go on to have three children: Carsten (25), Jacqueline (23), and Natalie (19).
The family moved several times due to Bob’s career, finally settling in Fox River Grove, IL, in 2004. In each place they lived, Kimberly would create a warm and welcoming home. She called her busi-ness “Trois Enfants Occupes, Inc.,” a reference to how busy she’d become raising three children. Still, she found time to help enrich her community through the Fox River Grove Parent-Teacher Or-ganization, Cary Grove HS Hockey, as a volunteer for Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the Rapshaw Club (Adirondacks).
Kimberly was not only famous for her kindness; she was also known for her fun-loving spirit and beauty, inside and out. When she smiled, it was a full-sunshine, high-wattage radiance that would light up any room. An avid traveler, she’d been around the world alone and with her family and friends, most recently, to Europe in the summer of 2017, where she delighted in the exotic foods and architecture of Prague and Paris.
She is survived by her husband and their three children; her mother, M. Suzanne Kondra DeFuria (nee Jaquin), her father, David Kondra, and stepmother, Susan Kondra, all of Syracuse, NY; her sib-lings Christopher Kondra of Syracuse, and Nicholas Kondra and his wife, Christine Doherty-Kondra of Philadelphia; her parents-in-law Bob and Jeannine Gallant; Don & Eden Gallant, Andy and Heidi Gallant, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to all Kimberly’s friends in Fox River Grove for their support, prayers and love over the past six years; and their friends in Syracuse, Jamesville and Plattsburgh, NY and Canada. They would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Altman and Dr. Kumthekar with Northwestern Memorial Hospital for their efforts, compassion and friendship. They feel blessed to be surrounded by family who have provided love and support during the best and worst of times in Kimberly’s journey.
Funeral services will be held at 9 :30 am on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Kimberly’s life at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Family and friends may call from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Kimberly’s name.
