Krystyna (Zlotkowska) Sterio's Obituary
Krystyna (Zlotkowska) Sterio, 84, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at her home in Liverpool, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, June 28th, 2020. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and Babcia. Born in Murawskie, Poland on October 25, 1935 to the late Boleslaw and Magdalena Zlotkowski, Krystyna grew up with her two sisters, Eugenia and Henryka, and brother, Andrzej. At the age of 9, after WWII ended, Krystyna and her family took refuge on a family farm near the Bug River, where she played as a child with her brother and sister.
Krystyna went to tailor's school in Myślibory, Poland and later worked in a tailor's workshop in Warsaw. In 1961, she sailed to the United States to start a new life living with her relatives, Jadwiga and Eugene Kaminski. Krystyna met her husband and love of her life, Dimitrio Sterio at The Hotel Syracuse Country House where they worked together. They married in 1965 and celebrated almost 55 wonderful years together. She worked at both Sterio’s Landmark and Trademark Restaurants and at Marsellus Casket Company for 10 years as a seamstress, where she made many memories and friends. She loved her cat, Cougar, cooking for her family, gardening and being with her friends from the YMCA.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her brother, Andrzej (Wanda) Zlotkowski and sisters, Eugenia (Zygmund) Stokowska and Henryka (Henryk) Makowiecka.
Krystyna leaves behind her loving husband, Dimtrio Sterio; three children, James (Matina) Sterio, David (Kathy) Sterio, and Susan (Michael) Larca; as well as 8 grandchildren, Peter, Krystyna, Nicole, Jacob, Magdalena, Giovanna, Emily and Demetra who will miss her very much.
A funeral mass in celebration of Krystyna’s life will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 2, 2020 in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 4 to 6 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
