Kurt R. Schmeling's Obituary
Kurt R. Schmeling, 70, of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Syracuse, the son of Kurt C. and Annette M. (Dragona) Schmeling. Kurt was employed with Carrier Corporation for 39 years before retiring in 1999. He was an officer of OCCP and CNY Conservatives Inc., an officer and active member of RSES and life member of the Pastime Athletic Club. Kurt was an instructor at BOCES HVAC Department and Local 58. He was chairman of NYS Skills USA, and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 527. Kurt was an avid hunter, fisherman and traveler. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra and brother, Bruce. Kurt is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan I. (Brusso) Schmeling; five children, Kurt D. Schmeling of Hastings, Derek R. (Julia) Schmeling of Liverpool, Sunday M. Darling of Syracuse, Bobbi J. (Mark) Merwin of Liverpool and Chad A. (Brooke) Schmeling of Liverpool; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Sandra) Schmeling of Clay, Donald Schmeling of Kirkville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Kurt's two loves were his family and education. In keeping his honor; his family asks that any donation be made to them. This will be created into an HVAC educational scholarship in memory of Kurt R. Schmeling.
